Emblematics was a gallery show, organized and curated by The Pressure, in partnership with Ways & Means. Embroidered patches have traditionally been used to signify roles, status and organization, rife with symbolism and history. Emblematics brought together 18 artists to create custom patches that explore a personal story, represent how artists communicate through symbols, explore catharsis, and project those stories into the public space.
The patches and their corresponding stories were on display and for sale at Yanagida Projects on the night of the opening. We also created a limited edition of custom satin varsity jackets that contained all 18 patches that will be for sale as well. Good times were had.
Artists include Nishat Akhtar, Thomas Bradley, Eric Timothy Carlson, Dan Cassaro, Dan Christofferson, Mike Davis, Adam R. Garcia, Eric Mortensen, Erik Marinović, Tom O'Toole, Richard Perez, Monica Ramirez, Aaron Rayburn, Derek Roberts, Stacey Rozich, Brett Stenson, Rich Tu and Matthew Vu.
